Close up of some of the texture in the new painting…
Can’t decide which pose I like better… hm.
Dragon Summoner
Watercolor, acrylic (white), pen and pencil on paper.
Thinking Tree (Pen on paper 2013)
Imaginary Friend and I (Watercolor & Pen on paper 2010)
Saw The Thinking Tree wander through my feed after I got out of work, and remembered my other painting. Anything “me” seems to have stripes of some sort. Did a self portrait in highschool and I painted myself a striped shirt. I didn’t even have an imaginary friend, but sometimes I do have other voices, so it’s almost the same thing, right? ;)

The Dark Queen 2003, Mask Collector 2012
The first is one of my first attempts at using watercolor, and they both had the same use of white acrylic to build the body. It was an almost unconscious bouncing off of the original to get to the second, though I do draw the single female in a flowing dress often.
I was at the Comicon the other week when I realized it’d been pretty much ten years between the two.
The Butterfly Queen
I was bored this morning and looking through old work to see if I could jog up any ideas on what to work on next (never mind that I have a few paintings I need to finish!), and started to look at ones I’ve redone for various reasons, how they seem to almost be 7-10 year spread between the original and the redo.
This one was redone because I gave the sister the 2002 painting for a gift, and forgot to remove it from my for sale page… so I did a new version of it in 2009. The original one I was purposefully attempting some odd style, and I think that’s the beginning of my squiggly decorative lines that I use often these days.
Once the Spring…

Here’s the other.
